You need to live, work or study in Western Sydney, and be 16 years or over. We will publish around 30 short pieces in ZineWest 09 from the entries submitted and these selected entries are in the running for prizes. Judging and co-sponsorship is provided by Professor Ivor Indyk through the Writing and Society Research Group, University of Western Sydney.

Prizes:
First: $400 cash.
Second: A year’s subscription to HEAT Magazine.
Third: A book from the Giramondo imprint.
Plus there are nominations including best story and best poem.

WW1CasualtyNew Writers’ Group Inc invites you to a Gathering of writers on Anzac Day:
Theme: “Writing in all Circumstances”
Venue: Mars Hill Cafe, 331 Church Street, Parramatta NSW
Date: Saturday, 25 April 2009
Time: 3-5pm

OPEN MIC!! All writers are welcome to present their short original works on the theme. Feel free to interpret widely – makes for an interesting session.There’ll be time for news and meeting other writers over coffee and snacks (Mars Hill Cafe offers a great range).

NB Fadeel Kayat has been obliged to cancel his attendance. The previously advertised talk on Iraq today has been postponed.
